Breast Cancer Research Themes

Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) Research:

With the objective to study the molecular nature of TNBC (a condition where HER2/ER/PR statuses are negative) in India for better diagnosis and research, we have established an International research consortium with reputed cancer centers in UK, USA and India. Indian women have about 30% rate of TNBC detection, and the statistics show high morbidity, recurrence, and there is no targeted treatment or drug available for the same.

We have discovered more than 40% rate of BRCA gene mutations in the TNBC patients, which was not previously identified. It is possible to shed some light on the disease with this finding.

Germline Research:

We have found extremely high levels of BRCA1 mutations which was not reported earlier in Indian women. Our scientists are probing this further and they feel this could be one of the distinguishing features of Indian Breast Cancer.
